The Series
A documentary record of Ghana’s institutional life, across five formats and seven pillars.
The Builders: Ghana at 70 is a multiplatform documentary series marking the seventieth anniversary of Ghana’s independence.
Its subject is not the state and not the politics. It is the organisations — commercial, educational, medical, industrial, civic — that have operated continuously through Ghana’s modern history, and what their endurance reveals about the country.
Released across film, audio, editorial, print and a national event between January and March 2027.
Three acts. Ten weeks. One anniversary.
Film leads each week. The podcast follows within seventy-two hours, carrying the conversations the film could not hold. The Journal publishes alongside both. The book collects everything, and the gala closes it.
Foundations
The institutions born with the nation, and the ambition of those first years.
Endurance
How Ghanaian organisations adapted, innovated and kept going — and what the country learned from them.
Inheritance
Who is building now, what they inherited, and what comes next. Climaxing on 6 March.
What we hold ourselves to.
These terms are set out at the first meeting, not the last.
Independence
Editorial control of every film, episode and essay rests with the production team. Participating organisations do not have approval over the final cut.
Accuracy
Every factual claim is sourced to documentary evidence or on-record testimony.
The full record
We tell these stories completely — the breakthroughs and the hard-won turnarounds alike. An institution’s difficult years are usually where its character was formed, and they are almost always the most compelling part of the story.
Right of reply
Where our reporting raises a matter that reflects on an organisation, that organisation is given a fair opportunity to respond before publication.
For the organisations whose history is Ghana’s history.
The prospectus covers formats, reach, the release schedule and participation terms.
