Cocoa built the foundations of the modern Ghanaian economy, and the institutions around it — the boards, cooperatives, exporters and processors — are among the most consequential the country has. This pillar also holds the traders and the market enterprises, the oldest form of Ghanaian business and still among the most inventive.
